The Dark Blue
The Dark Blue is a yearly print journal publishing literary fiction, non-fiction and poetry. We are working on our first edition and welcome submissions from writers based in the UK and internationally. We are looking for formally inventive narratives, rigorous citicism, sensitive scholarship and poems on any subject or theme. Pitches are also welcomed.
Founded in London in 2025 by Inez Madeleine with Julia Merican, Raphaela Blake and Hugo Bou-Assaf.
About Us:
Inez is an editor of The Dark Blue and a writer based in London working on her first book titled I elegise and I am the elegised,
a meditation on elegy and an elegy itself. Inez is a graduate of the
RCA Writing MA in 2024.
Julia is an editor at The Dark Blue and a writer from Kuala Lumpur.
Her words have appeared in various print and digital publications,
and once, quite excitingly, on an unfurling scroll in a gallery. Currently,
she works as a researcher in London and is working on her first book,
The Inconsolable Secrets.
Raphaela is the designer of The Dark Blue and a graphic designer and maker based in London, with a versatile practice that oscillates between Type Design, Editorial, 3D/ Product Design, and Art Direction. When she isn’t surveying The Dark Blue with a fine-tooth comb, she works at a graphic design studio in East London, creating logos and identities for clients across the cultural, retail, and restaurant sectors. She also guest lectures on the Product Design course at Kingston School of Art – where she graduated from the Graphic Design course in 2023 – and juggles a few freelance projects for friends and peers.
Hugo helms social platforms and art direction for The Dark Blue.
His forthcoming project is titled Henry, Running, a book on sport,
touch and the power of imagery. Hugo is a graduate of Royal
College of Art Writing MA and the Central Saint Martins CCC BA.
